Punctuation

Punctuation should only be used where it is necessary in a new property number or name. However, commas, ampersands, quotation marks, mathematical symbols and QWERTY keyboard symbols should not be used.

Hyphens should not be used to indicate a range of numbers, for example “2-5 High Street”. The word “to” should be used instead for example “2 to 5 High Street". This may be software dependent.

Full stops should only be used where they would make text grammatically correct. For example, ‘St. Stephens House'.

In Wales and in other local authority areas where punctuation is required for normal grammatical use or the omission of vowels, punctuation may be used.
